IPv6 ULAK6NET IPv6, the new generation internet protocol, is one of the most worked-on new technologies that have been developed over the past few years. It is hoped that issues which give headaches to network administrators such as the scarcity of IP addresses, security, service quality, mobility, multicast and network management will be history with the realization of this new application. Following the developments, studies are being carried out in ULAKBİM to widespread the IPv6 applications over the ULAKNET backbone and to establish its connectivity with the rest of the IPv6 backbone in the world. In this scope, RIPE (Réseaux IP Européens) has reserved 2001:A98::/32 IPv6 address range for ULAKNET. As of June 2003, an IPv6 connection with the European Academic Network GEANT was established and ULAKNET’s servers that provide external service were made to support IPv6. ULAK6NET Task Force was formed in 2006, for; • Wide spreading IPv6 applications over the ULAKNET backbone, • Dealing with problems during the transition to IPv6 of ULAKNET • Establishing its connectivity with the rest of the IPv6 backbone in the world • Supplying and producing IPv6 documents in Turkish • Trainig the connected node administrators about IPv6, • Cooperation with Telecommunication Authority and State Planning Organization for IPv6 transition strategies of Turkey. |
